If you own any type of property, be it a house, a car, a bank account, personal belongings, etc.,
you need an estate plan. An estate plan allows you to designate how and to whom your belongings
will be distributed after your death. Estate planning can be as simple as having a will or involve
many aspects of investment management. An estate plan will ensure your loved ones' future financial
security and assist in keeping estate taxes to a minimum. Asset preservation is an ongoing process,
changing as your life cycle changes. That's why it's so important to rely on a professional advisor,
someone with experience in the areas of trust, estate planning, and law.
Edward A. Griffis, J. D. heads up Parish National Bank's Trust Department. Mr. Griffis is a
Senior Vice President and Senior Trust Officer and has over 30 years of experience in practicing
law on the Northshore, where he focused on wills, trusts and estate planning. He obtained his
undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University and a Juris Doctorate from the Paul M. Hebert
Law Center at LSU, where he was honored as a member of the Louisiana Law Review. For the past decade,
Mr. Griffis has been an active member of the Northshore Estate Planning Council (NEPC) where he has
participated as a speaker and moderator of several of the council's Annual Estate Planning Day workshops.
